A PDF often needs explanation rather than structural editing. Annotation tools let you point to a paragraph, mark an amount, draw attention to a region or add a short note while keeping the source page visible underneath.
Choose the annotation that matches the job
Use highlight for existing text or an important area, text for a note, a rectangle or circle for a region, an arrow for direction, and pencil for freehand emphasis.
A clean document usually uses fewer marks. If everything is highlighted, nothing stands out.
Position and resize objects carefully
Select an annotation to move it, resize it with the available handles and adjust properties such as color, stroke or rotation when the editor exposes those controls.
Place labels close enough to the target that another reader can understand the relationship without guessing.
Use arrows and lines for visual explanation
Arrows are useful for screenshots, diagrams, statements and forms when one area needs a direct callout. Horizontal or vertical lines can separate sections or provide a clean visual guide.
Before exporting, zoom out and make sure the annotation still reads clearly at normal page size.
Keep an unmarked copy
Annotations can be valuable for review, but they are interpretations added after the source document was created. Keep the original PDF separately when authenticity or historical reference matters.
